Before I begin on the blog prompt itself, please note that I will not be completely serious about what I say :).
What is beauty? Well, its a word, it really is. However, other than being a word, it is nothing more, that's what I believe beauty is.
Why do I say that beauty is non-existant? As the saying goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." That means that how one sees another varies, that brings us to the topic of preference.
Preference is different based on who's view it is from. If anyone disagrees, tell me, I could start a whole long arguement that can last until you get bored and give up. Anyway, back to the topic, since preference affects how one views another, doesn't that mean that when someone or something is considered "beautiful", it means that those who view it prefer it to certain others.
What then, is beauty? Since preference determines beauty, why is there a need for this word? I believe it is rather simple, beauty is used to refer to the physical aspect of a person or thing of which one finds special or above average. However, beauty can also refer to other aspects of a person or thing such as the heart of a person and such, things that are intangible but makes one "beautiful".
Beauty is but a term to refer to certain aspects of a person, nothing more.
