What makes a Utopia?

What makes a Utopia?
The first question that should be asked should be "What is a Utopia?". In layman terms, it is the perfect place- a paradise. What does that mean? What makes something perfect?

Given that nothing can ever be perfect, can a Utopia exist? My answer is: Yes. What one conceives as perfect is dependant on oneself. Anything can be a Utopia given that someone feels that it is his/her "perfect paradise". Even the poorest places with the worst conditions can be a Utopia if one feels that it is greater than what one finds lesser (i.e. as long as it is better than what one deals with normally and complains about, it can be a Utopia).

For most, however, a Utopia must give one the following things:
Freedom, without freedom, everything else would become rather meaningless. What's the point of having all the money and things you want but without the freedom to spend it?
Whatever one wants, this is rather self-explanatory. If one can get anything one wants, what is there for one to complain about? If one has nothing to complain about, that place can be considered a Utopia.
A wonderful life. Why else would anyone else want any of the above for? If your ultimate aim is for a great life, a great life is what a Utopia should provide.

Since a Utopia is something which lacks nothing, something which has everything one could possibly want, it can exist and anything can make a Utopia a Utopia.

  1. Well it all depends on our own definition of perfect, isn't it? Just like happiness...
